All parents agree that how we are talking about race in schools needs to change to avoid harming the self-esteem of students. Some parents believe that we need to start having authentic conversations about our history and begin teaching ethnic studies while other parents believe that the teaching critical race theory (CRT) in schools needs to stop. Further complicating matters, we are seeing a rise in racially charged incidents at sporting events, classrooms, and school board meetings in the news.
How do we address polarization in schools? How do we respond to hate? How do we support local school and community leaders in this moment of division? How should we teach our history to our children?
